Ingredients

Dough and Hot Dogs
  • 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough or puff pastry gluten-free if needed
  • 8 beef hot dogs or chicken sausages
Toppings and Garnish
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 8 small pretzel sticks
  • Fresh parsley leaves for garnish

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out the crescent roll dough and slice it into narrow strips.
  2. Wrap each hot dog or sausage individually with several dough strips. Leave small spaces between strips to create a pumpkin shape.
  3. Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet. Brush each with the beaten egg, then sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake in the center of the oven for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown.
  4. Remove from the oven. While still warm, gently press a pretzel stick into the top of each baked pumpkin to serve as a stem. Garnish with a small parsley leaf to resemble a vine.
  5. Transfer the bites to a platter and serve warm with ketchup, mustard, or cheese dip for dipping.

Notes

For gluten-free versions, use gluten-free crescent roll dough or puff pastry. You can also score the dough with a fork before baking to enhance the pumpkin texture.
