Ingredients

For the Sauce
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar packed
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger grated
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes optional, adjust to taste
For the Bowl
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 cups cooked rice for serving
  • 2 green onions sliced
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds for garnish

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Small bowl
  • Cutting board
  • Knife

Method

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes. Set the sauce aside.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it is browned. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  3. Pour the prepared sauce over the cooked beef in the skillet. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce has slightly thickened and coats the beef.
  4. To serve, divide the cooked rice among four bowls. Top each bowl with the Korean ground beef mixture.
  5. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
