Ingredients

For the Donuts
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup cocoa powder
  • 0.75 cup sugar
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup milk
For the Glaze & Decorations
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 0.25 cup Halloween sprinkles

Equipment

  • Donut pans
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Cooling rack
  • Parchment paper

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Spray two 6-cup donut pans or one 12-cup donut pan with cooking spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. In a separate large bowl, combine the sugar and oil. Whisk until fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract. Continue beating until well-mixed.
  5. Pour in the flour mixture and milk. Fold until just combined. Do not over-mix.
  6. Spoon about 3 tablespoons of batter into each donut cup. Bake for 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.
  7. While the donuts cool, prepare the glaze. Stir together the confectioners' sugar and milk in a small bowl until you have a smooth, thick glaze.
  8. Dip the tops of the cooled donuts into the glaze. Place them on parchment paper.
  9. Sprinkle the tops of the glazed donuts before the glaze sets. Let the donuts rest until the glaze has finished setting. Serve at room temperature.
