Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 3 cups rotini pasta
  • 1 (28 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
  • 1 (14 ounce) can chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese or to taste

Equipment

  • High-sided 12-inch skillet with a lid

Method

  1. Heat a high-sided 12-inch skillet with a lid over medium heat. Add ground turkey, onion, and garlic; cook and stir until turkey is browned, about 8 minutes.
  2. Season the mixture with oregano, garlic powder, and basil. Stir in the rotini until everything is well combined.
  3. Add the pasta sauce and broth. Make sure the rotini is completely covered with liquid.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover the skillet, and cook until the rotini is tender but still firm to the bite, which takes 7 to 10 minutes.
  5. Top the pasta with Parmesan cheese before serving.

Notes

This dish is a great weeknight option for busy families. The ground turkey keeps it lighter than traditional beef versions, and the quick cooking time means you spend less time in the kitchen and more time sharing stories at the table.
