Method
- Gather all your ingredients and equipment before you start. The dough mixes fast.
- Add the water, salt, 1 tbsp sugar, and 1 tbsp oil to a small saucepan. Bring this mixture to a boil over high heat, stirring until the sugar and salt dissolve.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the 60 grams of All Purpose Flour. Keep stirring until the flour is completely mixed in and forms a smooth ball of dough.
- Allow the dough to cool for 10 minutes.
- Fit a thick piping bag with a closed star piping tip, such as a 2D tip. Place the churro dough into the piping bag and twist the end to secure it.
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Pipe 2 inch churro bites onto the paper. Use scissors to trim the dough pieces.
- Set your air fryer to 360F and preheat it for 2 minutes.
- Add half of the churro bites to the air fryer tray. Spray them lightly with cooking oil. Make sure there is space between the bites for air circulation.
- Fry for 10 minutes, turning the bites over at the 5 minute mark. Shuffle them around during the second half of cooking to help them cook evenly.
- While the first batch cooks, make the cinnamon sugar. In a bowl, mix together the 100 grams of white sugar and 1 tsp of ground cinnamon.
- When the first batch is done, immediately toss the hot bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture and set them aside. Do not add extra oil to this batch.
- Add the remaining bites to the air fryer and repeat the frying process.
- Serve the churro bites warm.
Notes
This recipe uses standard flour. If you need a gluten-free version, substitute the All Purpose Flour with a 1-to-1 gluten-free baking blend.
