Ingredients

For the Treats
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 package marshmallows (10 oz)
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
For Decoration
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup blue candy melts
  • 1/4 cup red candy melts
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil divided
  • 1/4 cup red, white, and blue sprinkles

Equipment

  • Large saucepan
  • 9x13 inch baking pan
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons

Method

  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the Rice Krispies cereal and stir until well coated.
  4. Press the mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan. Let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  5. While the treats are cooling, prepare the decorations. In separate microwave-safe bowls, melt the white chocolate chips, blue candy melts, and red candy melts according to package directions. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil into each melted candy to make it smoother.
  6. Once the Rice Krispie treats have cooled slightly, cut them into rectangles to resemble firecrackers. You can use a knife or a pizza cutter.
  7. Dip one end of each firecracker treat into the melted white chocolate. Immediately sprinkle with red, white, and blue sprinkles.
  8. Using a piping bag or a spoon, drizzle the melted blue and red candy melts over the white chocolate-dipped end to create a firecracker effect. You can also drizzle some of the blue and red candy melts directly onto the undecorated part of the treat.
  9. Let the decorations set completely before serving.

Notes

For a cleaner drizzle, you can place the melted candy melts in piping bags with small tips. If the candy melts start to harden, you can reheat them in the microwave for short intervals.
